Happy Independence Day

Great thanks to everyone who protects and promotes our nation's freedoms and prosperity. Below is the Declaration of Independence. Its words ring as true today as they did at our nation's founding. God bless America.

Declaration of Independence
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of representation in the legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

Nor have we been wanting in attention to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We, therefore, the representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by the authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare, that these united colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as free and independent states, they have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which independent states may of right do. It is said that politics makes for strange bedfellows. If all that has been written here lately about taxes and services is true I ask then have to ask who was in charge of these meetings and how involved are the employees? That question is important since they do the actual work?

So many questions I have are left unanswered with employees and our basic services that we count on and that we need and pay for should not be in the balance without exhausting every option.
It is a shame so far in my opinion from the few posts I have read here on this subject. I and my husband are watching this very closely.

I have to say that taxes have been steady here since we moved in with the exception of the schools. Schools by the way that we don't utilize.

We also need to know that with all that is going on in Trenton, that us taxpayers need to know what is really going on locally and who is really leading or who may be lying to us just for votes down the road.

Worse yet if true in the end is the answer to the question of who might be playing politics at the expense of municipal services, employees and us residents that count on these services daily.

Ironic is it not that with a website and more that leadership has not sought input from professionals in the community to help or give input. History has shown us over and over again that politicians are flawed and can make a complete and total mess of the littlest things. Services we expect and pay for are not a little thing.

Are you reading this any of my elected officials? Better listen to those who do the work before you tell them even one thing.

I just emailed this to Aberdeen Township. I would encourage all to do the same.

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and a concerned individual about the welfare and future of this town. I have been told by sources that the municipal budget may go up as high as 20% of the current rate. According to state guidelines the rate was not supposed to go up more then 2.5%. Whatever it is, any increase will be detrimental in a town that already has one of the highest property taxes in the county. Please understand that property values are on a decline and any additional burden on homeowners will further reduce these values. This town must look at any options available to it including but not limited to personnel cuts, purchase cuts and consolidations which may include merger with the town of Matawan. The Sewer tax already was increased by a hefty rate this year the tolerance level for any budget increase this year is 0 (zero). Please consider the state of the economy with nearly 10% unemployment and the struggles of todays middle class to pay its bills. If rates are to go up do not be surprised about default rates in the payment of local taxes going up significantly. I am pleading that this budget be reconsidered with all cut options put on the table. These are NOT regular times and a zero based budget must be adopted in order for this municipality to survive.

The taxes in Aberdeen have not gone up for a long time. This was of course politiclly motivated each election cycle. What is going on now at least from the little discussed here so far is no different in the area of disinformation. Let some info come out and let cooler heads prevail is what some might say. Watch what the leadership does though since they will sell their own mothers for votes.

Very often in the absence of real leadership the fingers will start pointing in every direction coupled with veiled blame that is usually misdirected purposely at those with no real responsibilities for actually causing the problems that leadership themsleves too often create. That is especially true in NJ to say nothing of our community under the too long and very questionable control with politically motivated agendas slanted towards rewaring the most generous funders of campaigns.

If this is true about the employees finding the savings just like that and yet the council still wants to furlough them, it makes you wonder why the council or the manager couldn't find the money to save. This is our leadership?

Isn't it the managers job to prepare budgets? I asked my brother who prepares their budgets in Westfield and he says the manager puts a budget together and the leaders reiview, fine tune and approve. Is the system here that different? I think it has something to do with the form of governing as well. This whole thing smells very fishy from what we know so far. Let us see what happens.

Stop crying. Everyone in office now was VOTED IN, democratically.

Blame the voters for being uninformed.

Aberdeen got what it deserves when no one cared enough. Thats why Memorial Day and July 4th crack me up- we are all so patriotic and yet BOE and council meetings are poorly attended, school board members run unopposed, election voter turnouts are in the toilet, 2 parties to choose from only. You want to be patriotic? = after you hang your flag GO VOTE but until then, all of the stories on here are useless.

I read here from time to time and saw some of the predictions around some of the crazy stories and posters who ruin the site with stupidity - but I remember the new housing developments were predicted and they may now be a reality - so again, until people stand up and be held accountable by their VOTE all of these crazy posts are worthless.

Our forefathers are turning over in their graves with the LACK of political involvement - especially in this town.

No one showing up at meetings until it is almost to late on certain topics..... I hate to say but alot of the problems we have in this town is OUR OWN FAULT for not taking a more active role in the democratic process.

If all is wrong in Aberdeen and IF there are shady dealings going on - no one has written a letter to ANYONE at the state level. It is a microcosm of our society - alot of big ideas and complaints but no one wants to be part of the solution

Boy when they said Aberdeen will have a change in leadership they really meant it. It went from productive to destructive in one and only one election. I think this supposed new leadership will have the employees up in arms if they try and go ahead with layoffs or furloughs especially after the supposed money the council needed for the budget hole was covered by in short order by the employees themselves. Imagine that asking the employees for help.

But in the end you can bet Norman Kauf was not happy about the employees coming up with more in savings then the council leadership was asking them for. You see that means they won't really have to layoff or furlough employees if that was the only solution. Or does it? You can bet the council or Norm Kauf thought they could gain all the political ground they needed off of the backs of the employees they wanted kicked to the curb politically by using furloughs to make the voters think that the town leadership cares about them. Cares about them? Look at you tax bill lately? Mine is over $11,000.00 now and for what? I live on a cul de sac on a busy road, have no kids and won't have any. $11,000.00 for what? A police department, garbage, water and sewer, recyling and one day in the summer to walk around the high school on the towns party day. No thank you! Save the money.

Little problem with your furlough idea that huh Norm Kauf? The employees balked at your politically motivated and divisive plan to get the votes next November. Here is a hint Norm Kauf. This is not a little problem you are going to have with the employees. It will be a nightmare that your greed created. Congrats Norm Kauf you may have screwed yourself and next years election. Did your buddy Coren tell you how to do that?

So the Aberdeen joke of the day is as follows.

Q) What does the local political leadership in Aberdeen do when they are outclassed by the employees they ignore everyday?

A) They have to come up with another lie to get the furloughs the council thinks they need to appease the voters.

You see the council thinks in order to make the voters think that the council and Norm are doing their jobs, they need to hurt the employees publicly. The best thing is that in reality the council is still screwing the voters over in another twenty different ways. Of course this is all directed at pleasing Norm Kauf and of course funding the democrats campaign for 2011.

We are not stupid and we know how the town runs. We know who runs the town. And finally we know what that costs all of taxpayers unecessarily. I myself think that the employees will rise up and spill their guts about Norm and all of the rest of what goes on inside town hall. They should all spill their guts if even one furlough day gets approved. One furlough day is too much if used politically just for votes at the expense of the hard working men and women in town hall.

Let us hope the newspapers cover the meeting tonight and let us know what is really going on.

I'm a newlywed who just moved to Aberdeen and recently found this message board. I read through the older threads and I am shocked at what seems to be the community we've moved in to. All controlled by one man? How can they allow this? Are the town fathers so beholden to this man that they just blindly do his dirtywork? And all the money that you say went to the engineers, how much of that is unnecessary waste that could have gone to the salaries of the town workers who were furloughed? From some of the comments about wigs and hair coloring I gather that the town council is mostly older people, is that accurate? Are there any young people on there? They might question authority. I think if we had more people my age and my husband's age get involved we might be able to change this town. And what about this Mark Coren? Does he really still own a place here? Could he really come back after he gets out of prison? We hope to have children and I worry if such a man would be in our community, especially if he would be protected by those in power.

I enjoy the complaints that are made on this blog, but no one shows at meetings. How is this town being mismanaged and pillaged by politicians? Let me count the ways!

1] The budget published in the Asbury Park Press on 4/29 has a 2 million dollar increase! It still has not passed and we don't know what the final budget will be. A public hearing was held in May for a budget that does not exist or at least does not exist for the public to see. In the meeting minutes only one person from the public questioned it.

2] Development projects approved by the council along Route 34, County Road and Anchor Glass will add over 700 students to the school district, with no effort to make the developers pay for the schools. It may be years until we see these actually built. In the meantime, the appointed town-engineering firm will make hundreds of thousands on impact studies and other preliminary "work".

3] Knowing that the NJ state tax cap is coming, our council is going to borrow 2 million dollars for computers, electronics and cars? In addition to that another million is being used from the water authority and other funds. They are borrowing in one of the worst recessions in history. It defies logic.

4] The town council bullied the library to use your money to help close last years budget. This money should have been used to fund library projects or been returned to the taxpayers.

This council is taxing and borrowing to the hilt and we are on the hook to pay. Engineering firms will get more business, while municipal employees are furloughed.

How does this happen? It happens because the Council knows the vast majority of citizens are totally uninformed. They know that most do not even vote. Those few citizens that do speak out are vilified, marginalized and suppressed. The Republican Party does not ask the questions that need to be asked and make the effort to inform the public until election time.

I can almost guarantee that not a single person will make a peep about the millions to be borrowed that are on tonight’s council agenda.

Until there is a unified citizen group that will start appearing at meetings on a regular basis, asking questions and getting on the record in the local newspapers, nothing will change. We will continue to be serfs to the lords and ladies of the town council, instead of them serving us. Al because of the apathy that has most Aberdeen residents in a foggy trance. Every years tax increase is a cup of coffee, perhaps we need to drink more.

I think I need to get more active and stay informed. Like I didn't know there was a town meeting tonight. I went to the mall with my sister. If I knew there was a meeting tonight maybe I would have gone and maybe even brought my sister. Even just to see what our town leaders look like.

To all of the idiots that keep knocking us for publicizing Norman Kauff and all of his thoroughly corrupt activities and who say we should come to a council meeting and ask questions before the council. F YOU!

The meeting we all need to go to is held on the phones between Norman Kauff and the Town Council, Norman Kauff and the Planning Board and Norman Kauff and the Zoning Board before each and every meeting.

That is the meeting I want to go to to hear when Kauff gives all of them all of their instructions and absolute in his stead. They ruin Aberdeen and violate the public trust every single day. Each and evryone of them know it also.

Norman Kauff is the lowest form of life on this planet. Second lowest form of life are those who follow Kauff blindly and without question.

Rain, there are town council meetings the first and 3rd Tuesday of every month. They begin at 7:00pm in the Municipal Building. If you go into the court room they are usually held in the back room. I believe you can also get some of the info off the town web site. It would be great if you showed up and listened to what is going on, maybe even ask some questions. Good luck.

What is the deal on this developer at the factory by us on Cliffwood Avenue. My neighbor told us this company has so much money that the council people are gonna give him anything he wants. What about the contamination they told us about that is supposed to be trapped all around the place. Who will pay to clean all that up. The traffic around here is too much already so who will pay to widen and improve the roads. How can the taxpayers afford the already too high taxes. An increase in taxes is sure to happen and will skyrocket the taxes if this project is built such a place. We are left with many questions and everything with this council seems so secret and so controlled. It is like they have no fear that the corruption and worse they seem to be involved in and as is often highlighted here will not be discovered. I hope if they are doing something wrong they get caught before they make things much worse.

You are correct. The sad truth is that younger people like you either aren't registered to vote, and if they are, they don't bother to vote. The entrenched hangers on vote, every single one of them. Those that have jobs in this town, those that have relatives with jobs in this town, and every single senior citizen, these groups all vote. The commuters, young single people, and young family starters don't vote. It is either not a priority to them or they simply forget.
You are also correct, the young people need to get involved. As some of the others posted, the first step to get involved is to attend the town council meetings. If you speak at the meeting, don't let the powers that be intimidate you.
Good luck and keep the faith, and when enough people like you start waking up and smelling the coffee, change will occur.

The leaders who shaped opur country and its laws are turning over in their graves. Leadership on a national, state and local level does not exist. They may as well call Aberdeen The Village of the CME Thieves for all the money they bleed out of all of us. Bleed out of us with the help and guidance of our supposed leadership. Leadership is a word that has not really existed in politics since the day George washington died. These people who win elections or what is better entitled popularity contests could not shine the boots of our founding fathers like Washington, Jefferson and Adams. You can also bet with what is going on in town hall now they will lose the great majority of employees votes in the next few elections. This since council has shown their hand with political gain being the real reason for possible layoffs not the almighty dollar that was supposedly the reason. Employees are not sacraficial lambs and I think the Aberdeen leadership is about to learn that lesson. Greed is a knife that cuts both ways.

Why is it that, on this blog, the janitors did not receive even a minute fraction of the support that the town employees are getting now? Geez, to hear it told here, the janitor lay off was an unfortunate but necessary business decision yet a temporary furlough for the town workers is a tragedy of epic proportion. Methinks hypocrisy wears a cloak of political affiliation and is not fooling anybody.

If joey, or any of his ass bag friends want to fuck someone out of a job, in order to bring in some politically connected asshole's company, that's fine.

Perhaps the reason people are left with many questions regarding the school budget and the very tough choices that had to be made in regards to the janitors and others, is that 70% of our school tax dolars provide services to 3800students. On the other hand and another portion of our tax bills comes to a total of 15%of our tax dollars that provides all municipal services to 18,000 residents, 11 major apartment complexes, 128 businesses and all the rest that encompasses a town the size of an Aberdeen, each and every day. That 15% would of course also include your police services, which is often the largest portion of a municipal budget among many other municipal services that we count on daily. Add to that the Fire Department, Sanitation and Recycling and other critical services and most often you still don't reach 19% of your total tax bill. Water and sewer did rise this year and so did all associated costs for those services that an Aberdeen must pay out.

I am certain that my explanation will not be well received by some on here because it is the reality we as taxpayers face often without a full and complete understanding of the real breakdown of our tax bills. Even though I work in municipal government I still reside here and count on the services provided to me as a resident and taxpayer.

We should also not forget those who raised the school budget by 20 million dollars in short order while they were in control. Some will say that is old news. I can assure you it is not news I want to ever see again. The decisions being made are not popular and the very real costs and abuses in the past by previous administrations has left a man like Dr. O'Malley very unpopular for the decisions he has had to make, and some decisions and close associations, which I don't think are proper or serve the students and staff well myself. I have a very serious problem that I will be speaking about at the next school board meeting involving the SRO. That is of course my right as a taxpayer, alumni and watcher of the downright abuses of past school administrators and other school leaders whose prioriies were blinded by arrogance and flawed leadership styles. Respect for leadership is not a given it must be earned. If leadership is not earned it should be rebuffed at the polls in any election environment. That is after all the American way. America love it or get the hell out.

This is a rough estimate but I think, not counting the outsourced folk, the district has about 470 employees vs. 65 for the township.

Well, the way I figure Nsectionjoe's calculations, he can rest easy. 15% of all the souls making a living from his property tax dollar would be 80 employees. Since our municipal workers number 65, they are getting their fair share of the kitty and then some. And they are welcome to it. Now, can we hire all the janitors back?

NSec is right though if you look at all of the services and the costs of same. The guy makes a lot of sense most of the timw and his figures and the services supplied for those dollar numbers are not extravagant. How many million dollar playgrounds are their in town with three hundred thousand dollar snackbars did the town buy. NONE! Most people just like to point questioning fingers at NSec and many others, rather then admit they are most often right and the facts prove that time and time again. But all of these people with their pointing fingers never really add substantively to the posts or give and take. Deflect, deny and defend is all they know. Protect Kauff and all of the corruption dolars is job number one. Right Normy? Damn right it is.

Nsection Joe has one wrong comment. The sewer department runs with a positive cash flow. They increased the fees so it would go into the general fund. Don't be fooled. There was no reason for an increase. Look into the facts.
