Property Taxes on the Mayor's Street

Due to the township's 2009 property revaluations, Mayor Tagliarini's 2011 property taxes are lower than his 2008 property taxes. Among everyone on his street, Mayor Tagliarini (the then presumed Democratic nominee for mayor) benefited the most from the property revaluations. By $23, he misses having the lowest property taxes on his street to two homes that have 15% less square footage than he does.

Despite all the above, I do not believe Mayor Tagliarini or Holly Reycraft, Aberdeen's interim town manager and tax assessor, engaged in any impropriety regarding the mayor's property taxes. Knowing the two individuals, I find the suggestion completely out of character.

However, to be fair, I present the data in the table below and in an excel file. Considering all the elements that go into assessing the market value of a house, it's impossible to know the truth from reviewing just the tax data but I did include the homes' square footage in case anyone should argue the assessments do or don't consider any house additions. I also checked for property tax appeals of which there were none since 2008.

Joey, where is your data coming from?

Aberdeener said...

I'm looking at scanned images of the tax rolls and the state tax records search although the information on Zillow appears accurate as well.

Anonymous said...

Joey, how much does the mayor of your town, Michael Bloomberg, pay in property taxes?

Anonymous said...

Even when he gives them the information the idiots still spout their ignorance. Be proud of yourself you idiot. Once again the Aberdeener proves his point.

Anonymous said...

What does this have to do with anything. You state that you don't believe there is impropriety...So whats the purpose of this blog entry? Showing the biggest property tax decrease on one street is not very useful. I guess you are running out of things to keep you busy.

Anonymous said...

What is ignorant about the question, moron? Perhaps, just like Joey is a New Yorker, infatuated with Aberdeen, this person is an actual aberdeen resident, with questions about New York, where Joey lives.

Anonymous said...

Nothing wrong with your question. The pp just cant seem to get his %$# out of Joey's ass long enough to understand that his butt buddy is not the almighty.

Joey,

Could you start another topic about the extreme number of violent acts that have been committed at the HS the last few weeks?

It seems that it is being continually brushed uner the rug, ignored, and trivialized around these parts.

SRO decision not good said...

Bet the new SRO is glad he took the job from Officer Richardson? I am just glad my boys were there while he was the SRO. That was not one of Dr. O better decisions to replace Officer Darryl. Someday maybe we will know why the Police Chief did not stand up for his man. Then again its every man for himself with Daddies boy in charge so says the scuttlebutt in Matawan.

Aberdeener said...

I've heard conflicting reports regarding school violence but have no data.

O'Malley does update the board regularly regarding school violence but I'm not privy to any of that info.

Anonymous said...

Anecdotal, but my 15 year old comes home REGULARLY sharing news about fights, a teacher tackling a child on crutches, freshman girl fights, teachers keeping kids in classrooms until the violence of the moment is over... even allowing for a teen's exagurating, this is a lot.

Anonymous said...

There are fights at the high school everyday. They are covering it all up. As a matter of fact there have been numerous arrests of students within the last few months. The administration doe not want to give out the information cause the truth hurts. The principal has no control. Its the new thing, be gangster. Thank Joe for bringing that into the school with that coaching staff. Thanks Joe. Anything for a championship.

Anonymous said...

Daddy's boy in charge of Matawan? Are you refering to Aberdeen? The man in charge of Matawan is not really in charge of anything. He is sitting home collecting Matawan tax dollars while sitting on his ass sipping. Yeah thats right sipping. Figure it out.

Anonymous said...

I don't think you would have people arrested if you wanted to cover things up or trivialize them.

$haft said...

You damn right I'm sipping. You bitches are paying for what I'm sipping too.

Anonymous said...

Who said anything about them having anyone arrested. There is a cop in the school. Obviously just another naive parent. "Oh, no not in Aberdeen-Matawan". Everyone keeps ignoring it and it is going to implode.

Anonymous said...

There is nothing conflicting about the violence. There were 3 girls jumped after a BB game last week. 1 of them had to be taken to the hospital. These were 3 Holmdel girls.
The Friday before that And in that same week another fight.
1 teacher was hurt by being punched by a student while trying to break it up.
Antoher student threathened to go home get a gun and come back and shoot another student, he was suspeneded but no charges were filed. The same in the student who punched the teacher he was back a few days later only to be suspeneded again for fighting.
The school did not press charges against the kids who hit the teachers they had to do so by themselves.
oh, and then there was the incident this past Friday when a student threathened to shoot a BB coach. He was also suspended, we will see how long it is before he returns.
I've been involved at the HS for the past few years and have NEVER seen it so out of control.
Where is the conflict?
The schools arent reporting most of the incidents, and even though the school has the kid arrested, not pressing charges equals doing nothing.

Anonymous said...

Basically the arrest is to remove the kid from the school because they can't handle them. They get brought into the police department, parents or guardian contacted, and they are released to them when they arrive at the police department. The school doesn't press charges for the incident to be handled in the court system and no one knows the difference. As far as they are concerned nothing happened and everything is great at the high school. Now these are the teachers that the Governor wants to evaluate. I would have to think that those evaluations will be nothing but a lie just like this violence cover up that is going on.

Understanding that mayor Fred is underpaying property taxes on his Aberdeen expanded Strathmore home. His house according to property records is assessed at $291,000. In my section of Strathmore no homes are assessed below $300,000. He without doubt is recieving favorable treatment from the tax assessor. Perhaps that is why the tax assessor has been appointmented township manager and since he is getting all the resumes for the position to his house he will forward only the Assessors resume for the perminent position as township manager. There is no end to the corruption in this town!

Anonymous said...

It is so obvious who is posting when criticism of the new SRO comes up.... give me a break - you joke.

He is a good guy who works his butt off.

Anonymous said...

Why are these kids allowed back in school again, if they have repeate offenses?
Why isn't the school pressing charges?

I have a question for Joe as well. I found out the they In School Suspension has now been changed to Academic E Placement - AEP instead of ISS. Can you tell me why that changed? I have my guess, and I'm sure you'll tell me I'm wrong, but I'd like to here your assesment. If you even know about it.

Nostradomis said...

They continue to allow the little bastards back into the school, for the same reason they allow thugs to coach.

If they don't let it happen, they would be accused of being bias, which terrifies the shit out of them even if it is sometimes the right thing to do for the sake of the non gang bangers.

Unfortunately, the non gang bangers parents are usually much less vocal, or pretty much ignored when they feel wronged. Case and point, when Joey, and the rest of the board did nothing about the assaultive coach.

Prediction:
Matawan High School will have the distinction of it's very own Blood set in the very near future.

Anonymous said...

The new school cop is working his butt off? I'm LOL.

As one who is in the high school daily the new officer cannot hold a candle to the work and dedication of Officer Richardson. No disrespect to the new officer but he does not interact as well. The new officer is truly a ghost and the reasons Officer Darryl is gone we know rests directly and questionably with Police Chief Powers and Dr. O'Malley. I do concur that this was a terrible decision to change officers and for many reasons.

We who work in the schools know the problems lie directly with the high schools do nothing principal. Truth be told she is afraid of her own shadow. My papers for retirement go in very soon so I am merely a bystander. I've tried over and over to seek accountability and was rebuffed. I'm done with the pablum and babying of the students whose parents don't care either being left here where we end up being referees. That reality as well as the guidance counselors who don't address the escalating violence and the major distractions that these hoodlums bring about daily must be dealt with. Yes that is right I said hoodlums because that is what they truly are so keep your probable racial or geographic responses and prejudicial responses that may come my way for using the word hoodlums to yourself. Mommy and Daddies little angels are often not angels when we have them for the day.

The problems are significant and it is not politically correct to say so or to bring the justice and accountability that is needed. Good luck Dr. O'Malley as you will need it since Edison is far worse in regards to violent and troubled students.

Perhaps Mr.Warren should post the statistics on the schools reports that are annually sent to the state Department of Education? Many of us doubt the numbers and incidents will show a true accounting. All is not as it seems. Isn't that right Michelle?

Perhaps the former SRO should call Joey's fellow New Yorker, Eric Adams. He has a group that is supportive of "certain" officers. Let's be honest, that's the real reason you are bitching.

Anonymous said...

AEP - not In School SUspension - because ISS numbers are sent to the state and AEP #s are not

A true cover up if I ever saw one. My son tells me all the time about the number of kids in AEP and fighting in the halls -worse this year than ever.

Good Luck mr. new super who ever you are!!! I hope you stand up for the schools against those who are NOT THERE TO LEARN

Thank You Joey. This school district is falling apart before our very eyes, yet denial is rampant by all you do gooders. O'Malley covered up the violence and is now moving on. A weak Principal and her policies have come back to haunt and all our students are at risk. As long as Joe M and his ilk continue to be the power many more bad things will happen. The vice principal is a joke and is part of the problem. The chickens have come home to roost. When will the parents see the damage that is being done by these self serving leaders and finally demand some accountability. Hopefully, before something really bad happens.

Matawan will be changing the school color to red very soon. B's up!

It may be the color purple. Anyone notice an increase in purple being worn by the young lads? Specifically Colorado Rockie clothing or hats? That is a clear sign of Grape Street Crip. Look it up.

Joe M and his ilk? What are you talking about?

I really feel that the Officer Darryl fans are either Officer Darryl himself or close friends or relatives. I really feel this due to the fact that Officer Darryl is the worst thing that happened to the SRO program and the only reason he was put in that position was to keep him off the road and out of everyones hair. The new SRO is truely commited to helping the students and keeping peace. How about instead of blaming the SRO for the recent spurts of violence in the school, we blame the kids themselves? Or take it one step further and blame the parents! OMG! No one would ever do that, no one wants to admit to not being on top of what their own kids are doing, or actually disciplining their children, when they have other people to blame! Also, if anyone thinks they can do a better job as the SRO or a police officer in general, why dont you try it? Why don't you go out and risk your life every day? Why don't you leave your house every day, wondering if youll ever see your loved ones again. Go tell the poor greiving families of Officer Matlosz or the officers shot and killed in Florida, or anywhere else that their murdered loved ones were just overpaid brutes.

Anonymous said...

The SRO officer in the school now does nothing. The last one we had did nothing. They are both a waste of money.
So, whoever is tooting the new guys horn must be his friends or relatives or himself.

Anonymous said...

Havent seen purple....sorry...

Joey W. changed things for the better and he will tell you that as he gave raises to people who all left us...

I never said he was the best thing to ever happen to the high school, but he responds when the prinicples need him and he has made arrests when they needed to be made. So in my eyes, he is doing what he was put there for. I have nothing personal against Officer D nor am I the president of the new officers fan club, I'm just calling it how I see it. Who knows, he could turn out to be just as bad the last one.

They all suck said...

Yeah what do you want the x-cop supervisor who OMalley put out for not doing his job. He was a Joe M asshole as well. JoeMartucci, Kauff and Auriemma they all suck. Right Norm?

Anonymous said...

How many students are in the High School? What is it that you expect the SRO to do as he is out numbered by that many kids? Kids that communicate by texting all day back and forth which makes it hard for anyone to know whats going on. I for one think these phones should not be allowed in school at all. If found taken and make the parents come and get them from the principal. The kids would never communicate with a cop because that would make him a snitch (gang term, get it). Officer D or the new guy would make and didn't make a difference. D was a joke to the kids. The new guy does nothing but break up fights.

Hey people. I am a student at Matawan Aberdeen Regional High School, and I feel that all of you people who are looking in on what happens in the school have no idea what is going on. Although the old SRO was very nice I don't think he was fit for the job. I have seen many improvements in how the school functions. The new SRO does not let any wrong doing occur. The old SRO just was not around to stop any of it. Every time I walk through the halls i see the new SRO patroling the school halls. All I can say is that I am so pleased with new SRO, and would not have it any other way. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Anonymous said...

The SRO absolutely can't make a difference if he or she does not have the support of the school adminisitrators and the parents. Not only is texting a problem but Facebook is a problem as well. Thats were the parents come in and monitor their children!

Joey, the answer is because when the zombie apocalypse arrives, the mayor and his family will have the duty of being first line defense. I mean it makes sense, the guy is the BB coach and can swing a bat to take those Van Pelt's heads off
(http://www.gjoynson.com/vanpelt.htm ). Swing away Fred.

Seriously, property abutting a cemetery is valued less. Also your comparison is flawed, no lot size in comparison, how old are these houses kitchens, bathrooms,AC's, boilers, hot water heaters, driveways, roof, siding, garage doors, windows and doors? Do they have electrical panel, GFCI outlet upgrades, outdoor home theater or burglar alarms? Try a comparison of only Cape Cod's abutting cemeteries for starters.

Poltergeist... I wonder how careful Levitt really was about not building on top of graves.

Anonymous said...

You guys crack me up. Lets talk statistics for those of you who think this new guy is the 2nd coming.
Lets compare the # of fights that have happened this year as compared to last year.
This guy hasnt broken up anymore fights than anyone else in that building. Hell, he doesnt get there until half the day is over.
He'd have to know where every fight would be and when.
He's have to be there all day and after school.
I don't think any officer or # of officers could do what you are claiming this guy does,I dont know who you think you are fooling.
The officer who ever it is, is a waste of money.

We all know jew baller isnt a student..how many students say"im very pleased" nice try moron.

hey foks- wake up. He is school RESOURCE officer. he is a resource, not the first line of defense. to truly make a difference the administration needs to be visible at al times. That means get out of the office and into the hallways and into the classrooms. you can do your paperwork afterschool like the rest of us do.

say what u want about the last guy, but he was always visible ande made a significant difference.

Aberdeener said...

Diamond,

I don't think you understand how a reval works. Assuming the prior reval was done properly, all homes would increase approximately by the same rate unless something changed between the intervening years - i.e. a neighborhood became more desirable or, like you mentioned, someone renovated his kitchen, etc.

Things like lot size, proximity to a cemetery, house model, etc. wouldn't have changed and should have no bearing on the percentage increase relative to the other homes.

A reading from the book of Joey said...

After he rose from the dead on the third day, and ascended back to Brooklyn, Joey once again returned to the city of Barza.

The Barza High School was being over run by rebels and Kauffkins after the prophet Omalley's departure, and the apostles left behind were not spreading the teachings of the mission statement properly.

Joey appeared at the chariot dealership run by the apostle Gerald. "Gerald" said Joey "Thou has not spread the word of the mission statement to the masses, and thy kingdom is in danger from the Kauffkins"

"Savior" replied Gerald, "The Kauffkins are too many in number for us to conquer." Joey replied " Fear not the Kauffkins, for they do not have the protection of the mission statement, and will not be rewarded with eternity by my side in the kingdom of Brooklyn. You have the power of the mission statement, and must use it. The Kauffkins, Barzonians, and rebels can not resist it's power"

This is the word of the Warren

Thanks be to Joey

Look on the Edison School Bd website letter from their Pres., Matawan's Deputy superint. was just hired by O'Malley for $143K. In less than one year Matawan has lost our Superintendent, 2 deputy superintendents, business administrator and operations supervisor. All have chosen to leave the district (curr. director is brand new to us). I wonder what this board is doing that is causing all these fine individuals to leave. Our Pres Kenney is always droning on about how great everything is, then why are all these good people leaving? I personally think it is time for Kenney to go. He is up for reelection this April.

I'm sure all the depature was due to the teachers and their nasty union. Isn't there where all the problems in the district lie?
Maybe it is the board who is the real problem when they can't even get their own people to stay.
I guess the teachers weren't telling all lies were they?
This board is so out of control that they have lost ALL their administrators.
Seems like the only ones that stick around are the ones that everyone always bash.
That says a whole lot.
Now maybe Healy will shake up and get rid of some of the administration who have let the HS fall apart!

ALL of you will be responsible if someone gets hurt by this thug. Barza can try to begin their political spin, but the fact of the matter is that during the last three years the entire school district has been better in every aspect than the last twenty years. This is what Cathy and her union cronies do, try to say how bad things are so they can come in and fix them. They will stop at nothing to get control of the district. O'Malley ran things well, and Barza hated it. Like him or not, he improved this district like noone else has.

Welcome back Mr. Healy said...

Mr. Healy like many others highlighted over the years on this site, in newspapers and at school board meetings were often unjustly pushed out of this district. Many who upon leaving the district and gaining employment in other districts were within short order integral, admired and well used in those new districts. Mr. Healy was one of these people.

My words, opinions and this specific subject matter will no doubt receive anonymous attacks. I expect it and only ask that I be proven wrong in what most know to be true or are often known to be true by those who were a part of these flawed processes. These anonymous attackers I am certain will be part of the BARZA crew while others will be members of the staff or union who were too often a part of the pressure that caused many teachers, principals and others to leave, just like Mr. Healy did.

Many of us are glad Mr. Healy is back in this school district and he deserves our support as we rebuild our school districts leadership.

The personnel changes recently criticized on this site came about as many left for more money, for hurt feelings when some felt they were not properly considered. Others who felt they should have been immediately considered by merely being here in the district already. These realities in our schools include and are often affected negatively by internal maneuvering. This in negative to staff morale that too often damages the education processes.

As for security at the school the SRO's do their jobs in the face of the difficulty of internal and external politics, social workers, guidance counselors and more often too sympathetic or by those afraid to do their jobs. In the past the D.O.E. was supposed to be notified of many specific types of problems, bullying, crimes, assaults and much more that do in fact occur in our schools. These need to be dealt with compassionately, sternly and be officially recorded. Too often In the past these problems, crimes and more were hidden by school leadership and for the most part were not reported officially some years ago. I say some years ago as that changed about four years ago brought about by changes in the state D.O.E. in Trenton and with our past Police Department leadership. I certainly hope our past, present and future incidents are being properly reported in accordance with laws and the publics right to know.

I would ask that a complete and impartial review be undertaken by the new School Superintendent. Undertaken to assure a very large and justly concerned parent and student base are confidant that those who are disruptive or too physical are held accountable and are properly dealt with as not to disrupt or injure anyone during the educational processes.

DID WE NOT RECENTLY HAVE INCREASES AND INJURIES TO STUDENTS AND STAFF. DID OUR DISTRICT NOT HAVE LEGAL, STAFFING DEPARTURES AND OTHER COSTLY FINANCIAL RAMIFICATIONS CAUSED BY J. G. WHILE HE WAS HERE. DID BAR-ZA NOT EMPLOY AND POSSIBLY HIDE A SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT NOT PROPERLY CERTIFIED TO EVEN BE IN THAT POSITION ILLEGALLY. DO YOU NOT THINK THAT WE SHOULD GET BEHIND OUR NEW SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT TO REBUILD THIS SCHOOL DISTRICTS LEADERSHIP. SHOULD WE NOT THINK THAT POLITICS WITHIN THE DISTRICT IS A SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE TO EDUCATION?

DH is a great choice.. DH was unjustly pushed out last time. From questioning I have done and researched - the teachers like and respect him. He is a no nonsense guy who will bring some order to this place and not look to always better his paycheck as others have done.

AEP is what you are referring to which hides the actual In School Suspension stats from the state. ONce again - covering up who we are apart from what we think we are or aspire to be....

Good Luck DH....

No one ever disputes Joe because just like Aberdeener there is no other opinion but his own. He speaks as if he has the final word when in fact his opinions are usually based on rumor and innuendo. How does he know why the administrators are leaving this district. Has he spoken to them personally? Once I heard him speak in public on an issue that I personally had the facts on. I reached out and told him what I knew. He was so busy listening to himself speak, he never even tried to hear what I was saying and instead continued to repeat the same incorrect facts. He is not a listener. His ego gets in his way.

Anonymous said...

NJOE??? EGO???? YOU THINK?????

I don't believe it for a minute. Next thing you'll try and tell me is that the Aberdeener doesn't live in Aberdeen.

ART LEAHY said...

AS EXPECTED ANONYMOUS ATTACKS WITH NO REAL SUBSTANCE. JOE IS EXACTLY RIGHT ON MR. HEALY. HE WAS A POSITIVE IN THIS DISTRICT AND MANY OF US PARENTS WHO ARE OR WERE INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOLS ACTIVITIES AGREE AND KNOW THAT OTHERS LIKE MR. HEALY WERE PUSHED OUT UNJUSTLY.

SO KEEP BEING THE ANONYMOUS UNINFORMED ATTACKERS WHILE JOE STANDS UP WITH THE FACTS. WHY IS IT PEOPLE CANNOT ACCEPT THAT JOE KNOWS, IS VERY INVOLVED AND CARES ABOUT HIS TOWN AND ITS RESIDENT? WHAT DO YOU WANT JOE TO DO INSTEAD? SHOULD JOE GO TO WORK AT A HOBBY SHOP WHILE REFLECTING ON WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN?

Why with 10% unemployment, and districts in NJ being consolidated, would the board pick such a controversial guy as Healy. There should have been several other people who had ACTUAL SUPERINTENDENT EXPERIENCE and no history in this district. Healy has NO doctor degree, NO superintendent experience and baggage with the district. Way to go President Kenney!

Anonymous said...

Healy isnt a hippie like O'Malley and will actually do something about the current school issues instead of just standing by, collecting a paycheck and hugging trees

Just did a search for Ralph Medolla in the Aberdeener area. NO FINDINGS FOUND for Ralph Medolla. Much like the supposed Ralph Medolla's posting he does not really exist with any facts, proofs or substance.

Does anyone really believe Chuckie has done a good job as leader of our board of education and school district? This district is a mess right now.

Lol, I found him, he existed alright. Search him under matawan twp.

Anonymous said...

No property owners named Art Leahy either. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

John Kliotti said...

More bullshit from Leahy and Medolla like anybody brought anything to the topic. I only appreciate Leahy standing up for Joe but I really have equal disdain for Medolla who seems to be just another spoiler with zip to add. Am I the only one to recognize that all these anonymous postings still do nothing o prove Joe wrong? The answer is closed and those who cast disdain for Joe or the Aberdeener host or anyone else bringing attention to the corruption, mismanagement and much more that is highlighting those responsible. But don't anyone forget the people highlighted falsely believe that there are only six of us. Fools they are all of them.
So Leahy and Medoilla only have to answer one question for me. Where are all those who will stand up for the corrupt so called leaders using their real names. I ask this since Joe puts his name and love for Aberdeen out there for all to see and criticize. Joe said he would be attacked by anonymous posters. Was that some plot or made up fact? Joe has respect for the man who may lead the school district at a crucial time. Could our doubting Medolla really do such a thing? He is too busy doubting people who stand behind what they say.

I have to ask anonymous at 10:52 a question. You were so brave to criticize nsec but you could not or would not identify yourself. Why? I mean you bragged that you went to a school meeting and talked to nsec so if you are real and honest you would put your name to your opinion. Did you really talk to nsec? Why hide your identity from the rest of us if you really talked to him? Since you did not identify yourself you're just a liar and nothing more. Don't worry though because those of you that attack nsec or most of us highlighting corruption and seeking change or god forbid daring to stand up for Mr. Healy are your real problem. People like nsec who complimented and supported the new choice for school leadership is fine with most like me who know Mr. Healy. It is obvious that anything nsec says or those of us that criticize the corruption are all wrong in your eyes. That would be plausible if even one named person came out to defend the corrupt amongst us like barza or our questionably controlled leadership. Not one person has ever done so and for a very long time and after many examples. Where are the Norman defenders who will put their name to their opinions like nsec does? We are waiting for just one real name to prove us wrong or counter the many examples. To call out nsec seems to be popular and for a moment funny except that you like many others never offer proof that we are wrong. The thing many of you don't know is that nsec cares and most of his critics don't know him to criticize him. We who work in the schools or in town hall see all that is wrong every single day and nsec is not the problem.

As a recently retired school employee(2008) I can confirm what Mr. Mcaleer says about Mr. Healy. Too bad many more are not as involved and concerned with their children like Mr. Mcaleer. To criticize him for that trait or desire is very wrong in my opinion. Too often those who stand up and express themselves are shouted down sometimes by those allegiant to a questionable cause or a purchased opinion. I wish Mr. Healy all the best as he is a positive change. To my former fellow employees I say RETIRE as soon as you can.

Hey, mister 7:30 you are anonymous yourself. So says the Lord our God said...

Healy is a good guy and needs to be given a chance.

Norman Kauff is thoroughly corrupt and Dems know.

Two insiders have a very ?? history and they know it.

Joe Mc has an opinion and no one cares.

Joey Warren is no longer here but keeps blogging.

Corrupt hate blog still highlights Dem corruption.

Council and Mayor are just Kauff puppets.

JImmy Laura is probably tired of the Kauff hijinks.

The firehouse is a great group with bad leadership.

The town is losing its luster and community feel.

Matawan needs help from Aberdeen to survive.

Police and other unions need to finally face reality.

School leadership needs to start from scratch.

Norman Kauff must be rebuffed by the electorate.

Yet another manager is gone from Aberdeen.

New Kauff controlled manager being looked for.

Hope the new one has a little ethics and backbone.

Fire official will be found guilty of assaulting JP.

Fire Commissioners are no longer the old guys.

CM&E is investigated and barred from public work.

Kauff legal eagles investigated and disbarred.

Union contracts finally get settled in Aberdeen.

Norman Kauff time to walk away with your corrupt ?.

So says the Lord our God.

Repent before it's too late all of you.

Cast Norman Kauff to hell and save yourselves.

Would you rather allow Mr. Kauff and Co. to keep robbing the residents, businesses and school system of its economic sustainability? Do you think Mr. Kauff's PILOT program where he steals all of the funding sources that would have in the past benefited or in fact built schools and the infrastructure of a community from a development. Mr. Kauff will have none of that. If you think that even one of our elected officials will stand up against the dictatorial controlled and shadowy Mr. Kauff's obvious corruption. For proof just look at the reappointments of the same tried and true to Mr. Kauff so called legal, planning, board legal representative professionals and more these past 12 years. These carpetbaggers come to Aberdeenand merely pay allegiance to all things Mr. Kauff wants and do so with all of our hard earned tax monies. Just look at the development going up on 34. As a resident living close by I have lost my priceless view of a natural setting to a development that will not do one positive thing to lower our taxes. Did Mr. Kauff
and his unelected and unaccountable self ever answer the public, taxpayers and residents that askew him on a daily basis? That is all any of us need to know about Mr. Kauff. That overwhelming fact along with not one board member, council person, employee nor anyone else ever came out and publicly defend or prove us wrong even once? The answer is no and that should be the thought process when we all go to the polls in November.
Think about it.

Mr. Medolla do you even have one opinion of your own or one substantive counter to all of the corrupt activities perpetrated by Kauff and company shown on here for years. None of which that has been presented concerning illegal, unethical and corrupt activities that have been shown deserve to have many of us proven wrong. I remind you again that Kauff has never been properly defended by any of the alleged Kauff controlled participants, council people, board members and more.

Perhaps you are just not interested in the price such corruption inflicts on the community monetarily or on our quality of life. That would be all right with me if you offered some real opinion or facts showing that all of us are wrong. Let us try this one point for you to answer or explain away.

Norman Kauff controls and shares a significant monetary percentage of legal work in town. The more legal work the more Kauff gets paid right? Should the former town mouthpiece be able to profit off of the appointment of his replacement? I'll give you a hint. The fact that Aberdeen has never adopted a substantive pay to play ordinance that continues to allow questionable and unknown payments to Kauff.

The ball is in your court sir. I look forward to an intelligent response not some doubtful proclamation.

Re: Remarks on Matawan Council. If you live in Matawan then you must know there is no money. The only thing the Council could do is lay off two Police Officers. BTW, alot of the force doesn't even live in Matawan. Yet to their credit they have made concessions previously. The Union gave the Council no choice. So there you have it! Now if you wish to contribute to the Budget I'm sure everyone in Matawan would thank you. Otherwise, get all the facts, not fiction, before making statements. How thoughtless you are to take away from Father Scully's award.

In today's APP Gov. Christi is trying to get NJ out of a financial mess and turn the State around. If it means, taking power away from all the Unions to do it. BRAVO Gov. Christi! At least he is taking a stand. Unlike previous administrations.

It is impressive that you attended the Matawan Borough Council meeting. Hope you are a regular. Unless your remarks were just secondhand. Matawan does need better attendance at the meetings.

MAIN ST. MANNY said...

No one took away from Father Scully's award. It was a sneaky way to avoid any questions from the public. As for the money, yes Matawan is apparently out of money. Did they do any research to see where the money can be saved other then the laying off of police? I doubt it. Matawan does nothing without hiring a consultant (MORE WASTE). Then even with the consultant's opinion they usually still get it wrong. Yes I did get the information second hand. I will say that the police have made several concessions in the past and maybe the only in the entire borough. Yet, they are the one group the council automatically takes out due to the salaries that the council had negotiated. At the same time the council has yet to find an end to the Chief of Police situation, which is costing the taxpayers a bundle of cash. What does living in town have to do with anything? Just remember that most of that police force was picked by Chiefs of police and council members that lived in town. Next you're going to say something like, then they can move into town? Why would the police want to live in the town that they have to do their thankless job? Not all the residents in this town are the most pleasant people. A lot of the people walking around don't look like the happy neighbors that lived here when Matawan was a small town. So maybe you should get your facts straight and stop listening to all the BS the council throws at you.

Anonymous said...

Matawan needs to consolidate and stop with the home rule bullshit. The police force needs to go, and be covered by a surrounding town. This is the new economic reality for a small twon like Matawan.

Wow is all I can say to the Art Leahy thing. Got to think Ralph is sorry e ever logged on. Outclaased, outjoked and outposted. Bravo to Mr. Leahy. Priceless!

ANON, 3:31: It will never work. Even if another town in the immediate area took over the police duties, they would have to hire more officers and have the proper equipment (ie cars) for those officers. I will agree you may lose an officer or two and their salaries, included in those maybe administration, the station can be sold, but that is it. Will it really be worth it in the end? Slower response time, less visible protection, not to mention anyone that does the work will always see Matawan as the second fiddle and the needs of the borough residents will always be second to the town who does take the police duties over. Not to mention that the town always mentioned (Aberdeen Twp.)is stretched to capacity with the officers that they have now for responsibilities. One thing you can not dispute about the police in Matawan is when you call they are there and they are there quick.

Main St Manny, how sneaky could it have been if the Matawan Police Dept. knew? As to Alston, the fact is Alston and his attorney, or constant changing of attorneys, is to blame for the delay not the Borough Council. Whatever makes you think the Council randomly chose the Police Dept. The Budget is worked on for months prior to being voted on. I believe all avenues to cut expenses were reviewed prior to laying off two police officers. If you know of a way to cut costs, then go to a Council meeting and tell them. It is my experience that any one of the Borough Council members along with Mayor Buccellato are available to their constituents. I personally have seen the Mayor at Football games, Community events, meetings with citizens of Matawan.

Main St Manny said...

Randomly chose? No, easy for them to explain. How about that 4 or 5 man road department? They are great right now because of the snow and ice but what about the rest of the year? They do nothing but patch holes in the road. They don't cut grass anymore cause the borough has hired outside service. They havent done any work which results in opening the roads etc... cause they hire outside. Might as well hire outside to remove the snow also. They won't have to remove the snow or maintain the train station parking lot next year after NJ Transit takes it back. I am sure the police will still have to patrol it. So what the hell does the road department do? They have alot of coffee breaks. I know that, just by seeing the trucks parked at QC numerous times of a day. I also have seen them in the QC on Cliffwood Avenue during the day. Oh and those trucks are pretty new that you seem to only see during the snow storms or the QC parking lots. There are plenty things that could have been done rather then cut the only department in town that gives 24/7/365 service to the community. Here is another. Is there a reason that Matawan has 5 fire departments? Has to be money in there somewhere that can be cut. I have said in the past that the first aid is a problem and any funds there should be cut back. As an older man it concerns me that they seem to never go out when called and another town has to cover the call. I do have friends from the different emergency services in town and a police scanner. Listening to them and the scanner it is obvious that the first aid is not dependable and almost never comes out. Yet they just got a brand new ambulance. Well there are a few examples of poor spending in Matawan. He is the mayor and has made himself available, I will give him that. But he is a politician first and would never mess with the fire department and the ridiculous amount of engines and buildings nor the first aid. Why you ask? VOTES!!!!!

Exactly Manny. The police are the easy out right now due to all the hoopla by Christie. Council needs to grow a set and stand up to the BOE. That is both Matawan and Aberdeen councils. The police make a high salary but these councils agreed to it over the years. They are here 24/7/365 and just a phone call away. The Matawan council should have waited till the Alston case is resolved before cutting to junior officers jobs.

Do you realize that Alston is costing and will continue to cost the Borough money. Whether he is working, retired or fired (which I doubt.) He found a gravy train in Matawan. Yet I don't read very much negative comments about him or his attorneys. The fact is he is and will continue to bleed Matawan. As for the two junior officers, it is sad that anyone should be laid off. But it is a sign of the times.

Nothing will change financially when the Alston case is resolved. If anything, it might cost Matawan more. Your theory of "I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today" doesn't work. As a matter of fact, the Democrats tried that, when they held the majority, and put Matawan in a deficit of over $300,000. What happens if Alston goes for treatment, who do you think will pay.

Totally agree about the Board of Education. They have been a thorn in the side to Matawan-Aberdeen taxpayers for a very long time. I recall teachers picketing a member of the Board's home. Can you imagine the uproar caused if a teacher failed a student and the parents picketed their home? There is a double standard for the Teachers vs. everyone else. This home rule theory in NJ is antiquated. It is time for a change.

I value the services provided by our Police Dept., Teachers, Fire Dept., First Aid, Borough employees, BUT AT WHAT PRICE!

In today's APP. two stories regarding crime in Matawan. Is this a coincidence? Two Police Officers are laid off and all of a sudden crimes are reported. I don't recall the last time crime in Matawan was reported in the papers.

A fine job done by Matawan PD.

I agree at what price? I don't agree with the police being layed off. I read the article and find it to be very interesting. What does it cost to run the Matawan and Aberdeen police departments? It is obvious that the school is the tax burden in Matawan and Aberdeen. Crazy salaries for a few months work (once you take out the holidays, snow days, conferences, spring break, etc....)and talk about childish, showing up to a BOE members house and picketing. I haven't seen any police officers picketing. According to the paper they are trying to handle the situation like adults. That is most of the police officers in Matawan. The leader is still kicking and screaming eating up money that should be saving these 2 jobs. It is time for these councils to put there foots down and refuse to pay. Let the school district figure out how to handle the financial crisis also. As for the articles in the paper, from what I understand it was time for the residents to see what is going on in Matawan and not hidden anymore. This was a common practice by the former administrations. Last few months in little ol Matawan, 2 home invasions, a knife wielding man, and a wanted subject who shot a man at close range in Alabama (I believe). Yup great idea laying off cops and still playing games with the so called chief.

After reading the article posted above I decided to do the math for Matawan. According to stats on Wikipedia, as of 2000 there were 3531 households in Matawan. Formerly the police department had 23 officers, bringing back the 2 officers they laid off totals 22. This does not include the suspended chief of police (Wishful Thinking). I am going to guess at the departments yearly budget, including health plans, etc....($3,000,000). I also believe I am on the high side and don't feel like waiting weeks for the very slow Borough hall in Matawan to get the exact statistics. This does not including what the town gets back from the court revenue generated by the police (like it or not). Thats 850 dollars a year of taxes per household go to the police department soup to nuts. That is $2.32 a day. Not sure how the apartment complexes are taxed and I am sure that the household numbers have gone up since 2000. You get 24 hour a day protection all year long with a fully staffed working portion of the police department for the price of a coffee, per household. Just doesn't make sense that the town can't afford them when they are getting about $10,000.00 plus from each of those households in taxes.

Let me preface my remark by saying that I support law enforcement. Now, let's be realistic, when you speak of crimes committed, isn't that the job they are hired to do?
As to the Borough Budget, the Police Department is the largest number in the Budget. The Board of Ed should be centralized by County. Towns/Boroughs can no longer keep up with the Union demands.

If the apartment complexes are going to rent to Section 8 people, then shouldn't they also have private security?

@Shaft, thought you were busy today in Court with one of your frivelous lawsuits against the Borough. Have to admit you do keep the lawyers in the area busy! The Monmouth County Bar Assn., should give you an award this year for being the single client who has kept lawyers in the County working. Oops, sorry award comes with no $$$$$$$. We don't care if you get "mines" as long as you don't get "OURS." Matawan is sick of you and your filthy mouth.

Someone has to be the highest in the budget. $850.00 out of $10,000.00 plus is not all that much for the service that is provided. It doesn't seem that anyone is complaining about the crime that they are hired to handle. What they are saying according to the Independent is that they won't be as visible and unable to be proactive with the cut in officers. Proactive is what deters crime. They don't seem to be asking for anymore money. So what is the problem? Problem is the money keeps heading over to Cambridge with no regard of what is going on in the town. How about the library with that large surplus and the towns still have to give them I believe a million or so a year between them. What happened to the saying spend it or lose it? Didn't spend it so you should be giving it back to the towns.

Well if its going to be the highest paid in the budget glad to see its service that is all the time no questions asked.

I would like to see figures by category of the crimes committed in Matawan. Also what the rate of pay is for law enforcement in towns of the same size as Matawan in NJ.

Do our Police Officers make the same as officers in Newark where obviously the crime rate is substantially higher?

The time for mandatory merging is at hand. Wouldn't expect Matawan's P.D. to like it. We residents can no longer afford increases to our taxes. Do we really need Monmouth County Sheriffs along with local Police? Why not consolidate towns under a County umbrella? Just asking?

Seems like the Police want to take it away from the Library or the Public Works Department or any other Department but theirs. There has to be a solution. Everyone is complaining but no one offers a solution. Maybe if people attended the Council meetings they would have a better idea of where their money goes. Some items are mandated by the State.

BTW, I have lived in Matawan over 25 years. Never had my home broken into (although I do have an alarm), never been accosted on the street and fortunately, have a great bunch of neighbors. We all watch out for each other. And yes, I also thank the Police Dept in Matawan for a job well done. As a previous commentor stated, at what cost and can we afford it!

Actually looking at data universe on app.com looking at Newark Police their salaries are just like all the other departments. Most police salaries are very similar these days. How much do you really think you will save by consolidating and merging police departments? So much money was supposed to be saved when the school districts merged and look where that went. Or have you not been here long enough to even know that Matawan and Aberdeen had two separate districts?

As for the library, what do they need millions of dollars in surplus for? I know its mandated, genius. Christie has no problem making it difficult for the councils. So why not take surplus funds from an organization that the municipalites are funding? Take it back and put into the general fund just like the budgets in every department of those municipalites at the end of the budget year. Don't give me the BS that they are saving for a new library or an addition to the current library.

Road department, please tell me what they do other then plow snow, patch holes in the road, or pick up leave? They have like 7 total employees. They don't cut grass and they do any of the road work. What is the point? Most of the guys you see doing what little bit of jobs they have are from the water and sewer departments.

I agree with who ever posted the comment just above. If I am paying I would much rather pay for service that is all day and night, everyday of the year.

Something is wrong if we are arguing over 850.00 a year. Where is the other $9150.00 going? Read the article above. Minus the health garbage, its very insightful.

Anon 7:43p: Glad to hear that these things never happened to you. What about the people that these things have happened? Do the police just forget about them and give up trying to prevent it from happening again or to someone else. Not even on the violent side. What happens when someone in your family or you know needs first aid? God for bid CPR? The first aid in Matawan and Aberdeen take forever to arrive. That leaves the police. They are the first line of defense. They do everything from unlocking car doors and saving people larges amounts of money (locksmiths) to just simply put as putting there well being in harms way. They are needed. I think police know that what they make now is pretty much the end. The contracts are going to stay the same. Keep the officers on the job. Find the money in other places.

Anonymous said...

Security? Yeah ok. They already get free dumpsters from the town why would they pay for security?

Anonymous said...

If we consolidated law enforcement with the County, the County would be paying towards it. This would hopefully lessen the burden on the local taxpayer.

Referring to the salaries of Police, you didn't mention any figures. Personally, other than the suspended Chief Alston, Matawan's Police Dept. are dedicated, hardworking people. They are community minded and do a fine job. And no I am not an Officer, just a resident.

Still think something has to be done about salaries for the Bd of Ed and the Police Dept.

According to Datauniverse it seems that officers in most jurisdictions including Newark with 11 to 12 years are making around $90,000.00 to $93,000.00 a year. That also seems to be without any type of rank. Is this a problem? I don't think so. The liability, chance of injury, peoples lifes in there hands. You are also correct anon 7:31p. Matawan police are very community minded and always involved with the school. I know by experience that when my children were in Ravine Drive in the late 90's early 2000's the officers were there on there own time for Dare Graduation, Crossing Guard party I believe it was,Field day, and many other functions. They would be playing with the kids and trying to befriend them. That is priceless if they reach just one that is troubled. You don't see that anymore. I am sure that someone will say that they were there on overtime. They were not, they volunteered. The officers are still in the department and it would be a sad day if the Matawan police share services with another department when there is plenty of money that needs to be redistributed.

Think of this. Matawan Aberdeen School District needs cut their budget by 4 million dollars and give 2 million back to Matawan and 2 million back to Aberdeen. Leaves the district with a 60 million dollar budget and both towns are back in the plus. There shouldn't even be a question about this. I also agree with the anon that said there should be no surplus funds in the library. Give the surplus back to the towns.

Please stop the whining and look at the numbers as a few previous posters have pointed out. The average homeowner in the township pays approximately $1200.00 per year in municipal taxes. Using simple math that equates to approximately $100.00 per month. So for $100.00 per month, each homeowner receives 24-hour police services, trash collection, road maintenance, snow removal, leaf removal, and other services offered by the municipality. Now lets assume that out of that $100.00 per month, $70.00 goes to the police. That means if the township were to abolish its police department, the average taxpayer would save approximately $840.00 per year. Taking it a step further, if we were to abolish all of our municipal services we would still only save approximately $100.00 per month. Now back to the police. Can someone please explain to me where we taxpayers could receive round-the-clock protection from a professional, educated, experienced, and well trained staff such as our police department whose competence shields our town from potential liability for $70.00 per month? The answer is that you cannot. So rather than worrying about police officer compensation, try being thankful for getting a great bang for your buck. And for those of you who refuse to accept the facts and continue to whine about a compensation package that equates to an average annual cell phone bill, I believe the applications for police officer will be out in a few months.

A police officer shot three times in Paramus after a "routine" car stop turns into a pursuit and a woman shot in Hazlet several times over the weekend. Times are changing and crime is on the rise in the state. Keep cutting the cops and paying for the schools slush funds. It will hit home soon and everyone will be in shock cause nothing happens in Aberdeen and Matawan. How wrong you all are.

So you think the answer to crime is more Police Officers. Possibly, but don't you think that accountability for one's actions is important. In today's society there is very little accountability. Parents refuse to believe little "Johnny"/"Jane" is doing drugs, got into a fight at school, cheated on exams, and so on. We excuse people who steal from us with excuses like...he/she had a bad childhood, they never had a pet, etc. Everyone is so concerned with their kids having an X-Box, iphone, ipad, they are forgetting how to parent. Most of the kids in Matawan are good kids. BUT, they believe their local drug dealer is their "buddy." At HS graduation, they cheer for their "buddy." Which sends the wrong message. Let's get back to parenting so our children are raised to be accountable for their actions.

BTW, we adults have to show accountability as well. Remember the Mayor of a local town who was caught taking a bribe? Well, I do and I also remember people saying what a good guy he is even after he got caught.

Just thought I'd put my two cents into this discussion. We may or may not need more Police, but we certainly need ACCOUNTABILITY. We should be setting an example for our children, afterall, they are the adults of tomorrow.
