Here Comes Hurricane Irene

Just wanted to wish everyone best wishes in riding out the storm.

Don't forget to clear the yard. If possible, gas your car and bring it into the garage. (It's a radio and electric charger. I always kept a car charger that converts ac/dc to power all my devices.)

There's a good chance you can lose electricity and maybe even water, so prepare. Storms hitting Saturday night and continuing through Sunday night. Roads and electric could be havoc for the next day or two. If you're on medication, make sure you have enough.

Library books, Kindles, romantic candles, and classic tunes on the radio are a lovely way to pass the time. Just be careful you don't burn the house down.

For updates, you can register online with the township's Code Red alert system at http://aberdeennj.org/

Please, only call police for actual emergencies. They'll be having their hands full.

Thanks in advance to the Police, our volunteer firefighters and EMT's, shelters, and all emergency responders. It's times like these that remind us we're surrounded by good friends and neighbors.

Below are some additional tips for emergency preparedness.

Stay safe. They say this could be a hundred-year storm so enjoy the memory.

Notice:
Evacuations are already being declared along the shore, and emergency shelters will open tonight at 5 pm at Holmdel High School and Wall High School. I also encourage you to adjust your service schedules accordingly.

Recommended items to Include in a Basic Emergency Supply Kit:

  1. Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
  2. Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
  3. Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
  4. Flashlight and extra batteries
  5. First aid kit
  6. Whistle to signal for help
  7. Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
  8. Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  9. Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  10. Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)
  11. Local maps
  12. Cell phone with chargers
Additional Items to Consider Adding to an Emergency Supply Kit
  1. Prescription medications and glasses
  2. Infant formula and diapers
  3. Pet food and extra water for your pet
  4. Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records in a waterproof, portable container
  5. Cash or traveler's checks and change
  6. Emergency reference material such as a first aid book or information from www.ready.gov
  7. Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person. Consider additional bedding if you live in a cold-weather climate.
  8. Complete change of clothing including a long sleeved shirt, long pants and sturdy shoes. Consider additional clothing if you live in a cold-weather climate.
  9. Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper – When diluted nine parts water to one part bleach, bleach can be used as a disinfectant. Or in an emergency, you can use it to treat water by using 16 drops of regular household liquid bleach per gallon of water. Do not use scented, color safe or bleaches with added cleaners.
  10. Fire Extinguisher
  11. Matches in a waterproof container
  12. Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
  13. Mess kits, paper cups, plates and plastic utensils, paper towels
  14. Paper and pencil
  15. Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
Create an emergency plan – Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so plan a way to contact one another, such as enlisting the help of a third party in another state as a contact, and review what you will do in different situations.

Stay informed – Listen to local radio and television for information on storms and other emergencies. Ride out the storm Normie? said...

Thanks Mr. Warren your advice and caring for your old town of Aberdeen have provided more info and encouragement then the town offices and website. Right Normie you low life. Hey Normie how about you go sit outside and wait out the storm. See if the Hurricane is as big a blowhard as you are. You are killing Aberdeen with your corruption and greed. Go sit outside and see what real damage can be done.

cme $$$$$$$ said...

But don't forget cme will get big $$$$$$$$$$ after the storm. Just in time for needed election campaign funds.

WELL the "Jewel of Aberdeen" has been destroyed. I seem to remember the campaign handout/mailer I got a few years back with the current Aberdeen leaders standing at Cliffwood Beach and looking out over the water.

Well that water is now all over the street on Lakeshore. A Noreaster last year and the bad storms over the winter DESTROYED the dunes - NEVER REPLACED. You drive by and see the city and sea wall and any idiot with half a brain would know that they next BIG ONE was going to pour water every where. Cliffwood beach on the Old Bridge side was somewhat spared because they have DUNES along their nice waterfront...

So CLiffwood Beach - Old Bridge, Keyport, and Union Beach as well as The Amboys have BEAUTIFUL water fronts and WE HAVE CRAP.

And not only crap, but crap that broke and no one fixed it SO NOW THE PROBLEM IS WORSE and IT WILL BE MORE COSTLY TO FIX....

Why not do it right? Why not make the water front the vocal point of the town? Why not have events down there so that you can make it nice and THEN USE- it is the chicken or the egg theory but the only way to draw ALL PARTS of Abderdeen and Matawan to ITS OWN waterfront is to do something constructive with the area.

We are the only ones around WHO HAVE NOT DEVELOPED THE WATER FRONT.

HELL A BOAT RAMP would be a start.

Look at all the funds that Old Bridge, Keyport and Union Beach got from the GOVT, Grants, and Green Acres $$$.

Once again Cliffwood Beach is used by politicians for photo ops when it means votes.

WHAT A SHAME!!! Aberdeener why didnt you see this is your time here? It has been mentioned before on here, I have seen it. Nsection Joe I have read here that you were from the beach and I know you care about this town's looks and appearances.... what say you? If you wont give an honest answer, please dont respond....

I am just fed up. The waterfront could be an asset used by ALL RESIDENTS of Aberdeen and Matawan.

If it was Strathmore Beach???? said...

Cliffwood Beach is not held in high esteem by your political hacks in Aberdeen. You can bet that if it was Strathmore Beach you would have much better than what the towns you have named have built in the last ten years. Don't respond as it is the truth. As for NJoe he won't respond since he moved to Strathmore and is under the Kauff corruption umbrella. Just ask Coach Fred who likewise is bought and paid for by Kauff. There was a time when NJoe cared and put himself out there for years. Then Kauff hired him and Kauff keeps his enemies closer. Don't get me wrong NJoe still keeps the town clean despite the abuse we give him. I myself don't have the time to plead our case like he used to do in front of Murphy much less write the papers every month.
Aberdeen is Aberdeen and it is in ruin because of Kauff and his puppet leadership. Thats means you Coach Fred. To say nothing of the disappointment many of has for Jimmy Lauro now that he is under the Kauff umbrella like NJoe.

The truth of Normie is said...

The waterfront much like many other locations that could or should have been made a positive for our town and simply were not selected because Normie doesn't care about much of Aberdeen and those people over here.

More precisely Normie could not make enough illegal money for himself and C.M.E., C.M.E. who get paid to oversee every project done in town. Roads, sewers, and everything else the town does allows C.M.E. to cash in and eventually Normie.

You can bet your last money that the unchecked and outrageous C.M.E. percentages if not more than the various other C.M.E. bills for services will always gets into the Normie campaign formula via though the big payouts like the annual C.M.E. road program for example. We should just call what it is the taxpayer funding of the corrupt democratic campaign coffers. It happens each and every year and cost one former town manager his job I hear.

I wait for the next campaign propoganda to arrive with the new candidates taking the spots of Normies three musketeers in Vincie, Gumbs and Drapkin.

Beach Bob said...

Why does the residents of Cliffwood Beach have to evacuate to Holmdel HS instead of Matawan HS or middle school? Is it because they have dedicated public employees and we have private hires that don't live in town and don't pay real estate taxes??

Beach Bob said...

I have lived on Greenwood Ave.for 14 years and its all uphill from the beach. The water would have to rise 25 feet to reach my curb and another 6 feet to reach my door.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the Strathmore Beach comment.... But they could fix it and make it a centerpoint of the town by having event down there- Aberdeen Day, Fireworkds, movies on the beach - but I agree its not on the right side of town and doesnt garnish enough votes for importance....

Anonymous said...

If the waterfront had been developed, the development would have been washed away now as a result of the configuration of our particular piece of bay front. It happened to the thriving boardwalk and public pool back in the old days. It was not the fault of the town goverment. Mother nature doesn't care which party wins the next election.

The cme road program? Explain please. My road was done a couple of years ago and I hear another in my area is soon to be done. At least they are doing roads unlike Matawan.

Anonymous said...

Your road was done and 25 percent of the road costs went to cm. So congrats you lost and cme won again. An average of 2 million is spent by aberdeen. Guess how much goes to the corrupt aberdeen democrats. How many more streets could be done if Kauff allowed the town to have its own engineers rather than his cme.
/You can't fund corrupt campaigns if there is no cme. Right Kauff. Still waiting on our sewers margie. Thanks for nothing Kauff.

Any word on how many homes are without power in Aberdeen? According to JCP&L website, number of customers out in Aberdeen, Cliffwood Beach and Cliffwood is extremely low compared to the rest of Monmouth county. Were we that lucky, or are people just not calling in to report outages?

Yawn...

Sewers = development, jackass.

Code guy must be sad said...

Is code guy all right? The train lot was empty yesterday so there were no old ladies to give summonses. No pregnant ladies to harass and leave tickets on there car windshields. What is code guy to do. I bet he will be busy telling people telling people like my neighbor to keep trash out of the street and off of the sidewalk.

It was Tuesday, the commuter lot was empty. There were no pregnant ladies to ticket. I had no reason to live.

What's happening in Matawan? Heard Ravine Dr. roadway collapsed.

Anonymous said...

As of 6am this morning 4700 Matawan residents w/o power but only 310 in Aberdeen. The 310 are the people who trash Kauff on this site. He knows whos naughtly or nice.

I guess Matawan mayor can;t get the lights back on. I guess there's no $$ to be made?

Ravine Drive and the Dam - did someone TNT the Dam? Somethings UP!!

Try this on for size said...

OK idiot try the truth for once.

Dam on Ravine is intact

Kauff is a corrupt political hack that runs Aberdeen

Bucca-gellato has power and should not have power

Kauff and his followers are scum killing the town

If Kauff could have Matawan you would beg for Bucca-gellato to be back in charge

That is all time for work

Where were our elected officials? said...

Think about this come election day people of Cliffwood and Cliffwood Beach because we matter

Where were our elected officials during the clean up?

You can bet they were around Strathmore

You can bet they are there picking up storm damage

You can bet they are patting themselves on the back for a job well done in their beloved Strathmore

Patting themselves on the back for what?

A job well done during Hurricane Irene

For what job well done?

Just remember and never forget

When they come knocking on our doors for votes on election day ask them where they were after Irene.

Matawan was pumping out basements did Aberdeen?

Where were our elected officials?

Hiding is the answer

They should have been around our area seeing if we needed help

Where were they I ask you?

The Dam at Ravine is intact you say! That's great news for Matawan but will Bucca-gellato be happy. No contracts to give out!
Keep a eye on the DAM the wolfman comes out at night!!

Kauff knows who is naughty or nice? F Kauff I say. Let Kauff come down my chimney on Christmas Eve I will light a fire and burn his greedy ass. FU SantaKauff!

norm dont care about you said...

It was cliffhood and cliffhood beach and norm dont care about you. Send norm packing or get used to it.

Anonymous said...

Where should the elected officials be? I don't understand. Do you expect them to climb the poles and fix all the electric problems? I saw alot of pictures of the mayor and Clifton at the dam with engineers from the county and local emergency services members. Should they all be jack hammering the road and laying the asphalt? You peoople are out of your mind. You can't rush JCP&L. They will come when they get there. Power has been coming back on all over town. It wasn't the current members of council that ignored the dam. It has been a fight that many of the past councils have taken on and it has been a fight to save you money by finding funds via grants and trying to find another organization to take on some of the cost (ie. Federal, County, whoever will listen). So lets not turn this storm and what damages have occured to the town into a mailer for the election. The mayor, council, and freeholders did not call on or create Hurricane Irene. Idiots!!!!

Business alliance is a joke said...

I miss where is my Kauff. Unfortunately if you own a business in Aberdeen like me you are out of luck. Don't worry though you can bet that Norm Kauff and his band of corrupt Merry Men will come out smelling like a rose.

They did nothing to help our businesses during this latest weather event but they will certainly tell all of us how much they did for us as they come crawling looking for campaign donations to continue their fleecing of this community.

I will give them as much as they gave me towards their joke of a business alliance. More political fluff from typical low life politicians that don't do shit for us taxpayers and business owners.

Aberdeen is such a joke said...

But what do we taxpayers really expect from Norman Kauff's political hacks? Did anyone think that you did not hear or see any of the Aberdeen political hack leadership because Norman Kauff is away taking another illegally funded by his greedy corruption, kickbacks? Simply put Kauff is probably away on another taxpayers funded illegal kickback vacation. You see if Kauff is away there is no one to move the mouths or limbs of our so called town council puppets. Know one thing for absolute. Know for sure that Norman Kauff is their puppet master and they can't do anything without his approval, instructions and intimidating demands. The town council just like the planning and zoning board members can do nothing without the puppet master telling them what to do, when to show up or not show up and of course how to vote to benefit and continue the corruption Kauff orchestrates on a daily basis. Just look at the man that used to be Fred Tagliarini. He is now nothing but an oozing festering pimple on Norman Kauff's corruption filled ass. It is so sad to see what has become of the man who once coached my sons. I hope being the mayor will be worth your self esteem and the loss of respect from many who knew you when Fred? Do you even remember the man you were Fred T before Norman Kauff took your manhood? I wish the town council would show up on my street and see how pissed off my neighbors are. They won't dare show up without Kauff telling them what to do and say. If they show up now it is too late for far too many. Don't worry Aberdeen you will hear from the Kauff leadership as soon as Kauff gets back and tells them what to say and do. Aberdeen is such a joke.

It was Wednesday, I was back on the prowl. I was working day watch on the West side of the commuter lot. While I didn't see any pregos, or cripples to ticket yet, that day was young.

It was nice to be back on my turf. Anyone stupid enough to dare violate the laws of the commuter lot best beware. I'M BACK!!!

After the great flood, Joey gathered his apostles at the home of the apostle Gerald, who sold used chariots.

"Savior" said the apostle CAPS guy "Why has thou not been here for us in our time of misery? The Kauffkins have taken all of our things!"

"Fear not, CAPS guy" said Joey. " For the Kauffkins do not have the protection of the mission statement. I have been away from you, this is true. I have been to the Kingdom of Manhattan with my landlo...ahem, I mean, with my other apostles, spreading the words of the mission statement.

"Master, I fear for our survival" said Gerald, who sold used chariots. "For the Kauffkins have enlisted Shaft, who is indeed a bad motherfucker into their Kauffkinness, and with his badness, we are doomed"

"Fear not of Shaft" said Joey. For he in all his bad motherfuckerness is no match for the mission statement."

This is the word of the Warren

Thanks be to Joey.

The jewel of Aberdeen said...

But didn't politicians go down to Cliffwood Beach every year promising and extolling Cliffwood Beach as the JEWEL OF ABERDEEN. The jewel of Aberdeen has been stolen by the blundering politicians run by the mysterious Mr. Norman Kauff Esquire. By the way Esquire translates into the word thief.
