To those who still don't believe Mark Coren is in jail here in Saint Lucie County, I stopped over to the jail and a friend of mine took me over to the yard and there he was standing all by himself, They have to watch him and all the other scumbags like him because inmates don't take too well to people convicted of crimes against children.

The angst and contempt you have for Coren is very well placed and well deserved after all he did to your brothers in blue . Some of us up here are concentrating on outing Norman Kauff for all of his crimes against the taxpayers and residents of Aberdeen. You should know your service to the citizens of Aberdeen was very much appreciated and I can't wait to see how long it is before Coren goes "37". Some background here.
Mark Coren was appointed back in 1983 by a Republican-controlled council led by Mayor Tom Powers to replace Paul F. Gleason (who had left to take a position in the corporate sector). Coren was recruited by a municipal headhunter firm; he had been the borough administrator of Phoenixville, PA.
There was an election that year in which control of the council was at stake, and Coren, who was hired before the election, said that he would not be able to start work until after the election. This allowed him to see who would be in control of the council, and allowed him to choose his alliances. The Democrats took control that year, and Coren allied himself with incoming Mayor Burton Morachnick.
One of Coren's first acts under the Democrats in 1984 was the change of Township Engineers. T & M Associates had been Aberdeen's engineering firm for many years under both Democrats and Republicans. Norman Kauff wanted Schoor - DePalma, and Coren was wined and dined by local Dems and engineer Steve DePalma; Schoor - DePalma cot the contract. This resulted in sharp criticism from Republicans on the council, particularly Councilman Robert Devino.
In 1991, Republicans regained control on the council. Coren was initially allowed to stay, so the new council could evaluate his performance. Because he tended to keep the council on what appeared to be a "need to know" basis on policy and administration matters, his services were terminated in the spring of 1992. This resulted in sharp criticism from the Democrats.
During the four years of Republican control (1992-1995), Democrats regarded Coren as "township manager in-waiting", and it is widely believed that they remained in close contact with him. For his part, Coren seemed to consider himself as "Aberdeen Township manager in-waiting", as he retained his residence here, and seemed to have bounced from one job to another. (Clinton Twp., Howell, Mahwah)
Democrats retook control in the 1995 election, and immediately terminated Township Manager James M. Cox. They went through the motions of a nationwide search. Concerns were raised about Coren coming back, but many believed that with a former township employee (Vincent Vinci) on the council he would not. Once he showed up one night at Town Hall for an interview for his old job, everyone knew that the "search" was a sham, and that Coren was it from the beginning. Norman wanted him, that settled it, and council hired him.
With his 2006 retirement, many in Matawan worried that he would be appointed by the Democrats there as the administrator, but he wasn't.
Still, he was the manager who just wouldn't go away, as he was paid as a consultant at least into 2007.

That Mark Coren kept the town council and everyone else on a *need to know basis* is an understatement. That of course is far different from the present *keep the public from knowing*. Keep the public from knowing anything that has to do with the obvious *pay to play* corruption, bribe taking and solicitation in parking lots, offices, restaurants and more where Kauff solicits vast amounts of money from developers who in turn double pull double duty as Kauffs main political contributors.
This leadership is a joke and the latest Coren caper and the latest political corruption scandal in our state must have all of them running for cover. It better.
In regards to Inmate Coren and who knew what and when needs to be answered. Has an investigation started on his time in Aberdeen. Saying that he no longer works here will not suffice. That man was a walking lawsuit and he hurt many people as the manager as well as being peoples supposed friend and neighbor amongst our community.
Not a peep from the candidates on the Coren incarceration either. Then again not a peep from candidates in Aberdeen is standard operating procedure. That M O needs to change as the taxpaying people deserve to know more then our leadership wants us to know.
One other thing to all you so easy to tell me what i do not know about this town I lived in Matawan before moving to Cliffwood. I grew up in Matawan and read the papers and I heard all of the rumors about Aberdeen and Kauff. So BTFUp.
I just got on and read the BSB post also. Does anyone think Mayor Sobel may be the smartest one of them all? Sobel may be moving out of Aberdeen before the politically corrupt Mr. Kauff and his 'house of cards' crumbles. I hear the earth is shaking under Justice Lane a little more each day. Maybe that is a Mr. Kauff nervous twitch causing the earth shaking on that street? Why so nervous Mr. Kauff?
Mayor Dave you should know that moving out of Aberdeen will not solve your problems. The Kauff connection will follow you
forever. Mayor Dave you need to remember what you said in front of us residents of the 5,6,7,8 streets when you voted to allow the Caaglias to build those two houses in spite of us speaking out against them being built. Your obvious and unashamed selling out of the local residents and taxpayers for over development will be your epitaph. We will remember the damage you and Mr. Kauff caused us. Some of us have also not forgotten about Mr. Kauff and Mr. Coren secretly rezoning the old raiders marine store property to allow for storage facilities to be built on highway 34. The term master plan should be replaced by the words cash in plan. That is all you and the others are trying to do. You should all be ashamed. Don't look for many votes over here as long as Mr. Kauff is involved even if it is from behind the scenes.

Aberdeen's mayors have a track record of not staying in town. Since 1966, when the Council-Manager form of government began, only 3 out of 11 mayors remained in the township. Of those 3 who stayed, only one (Murphy) is still living. Why did the others leave? Various reasons; business, retirement, empty nest and the like. I don't know why Sobel is leaving.

Speaking of Marlboro I went and Googled Norman Kauff and boy o boy quite a bit of information is available. One specific town and some concerned citizens there don't like him either. It seems he is just as popular in Marlboro as well for crimes against the citizenry and for political similar hanky panky.

For those of you are not aware that Coren was even responsible for the demise of Strathmore Bath and Tennis club please read on. Back in 2005 New Jersey Transit was in the process of negotiating a contract with the Board of Trustees of the club. This contract would have given the club yearly revenue to update the facility along with the replacing of the fences, lighting and pavement of the lot. During the clubs "on season"-(10 weeks) NJ Transit was discussing plans with the Strathmore Bowling Ally. It would have been a great partnership and would have allowed the club to continue to be an asset to the community.Mark had some assistance with this but he was the final word.I guess he wasn't getting anything out of it. What a shame! That beautiful facility which was solely run by volunteers of the community is now a vacant eyesore on LLoyd Road. Thanks Mark and friends. I hope you all get what you deserve!
Who are you trying to kid. Your suggestion that the Strathmore Swim Club was well run is an absolute joke. It was a hole and for the last ten years if not longer. For the most part it looks better now then when your supposed volunteers were running it. Your supposed volunteers ran it into the ground and they blamed everyone but themselves for doing so. They were greedy self promoting people who thought their - - - - did not stink. It stunk and the whole place did for years. They never reinvested monies into it, which was obvious. You want to see a well run facility like that go to Holmdel.
I do agree that the pool club property should have never been sold to anyone else but the town of Aberdeen. That size piece of property in the middle of a large section of our town deserved to be used as a town wide recreational facility. The supposed leadership of Aberdeen had planned to spend $750,000.00 to rehab the old senior center off of Lloyd Road. They could have bought the pool club property for that price maybe less.
As for Coren having the final word you left out one small and very important word in that decision making process. That word is KAUFF. It is that simple Kauff let it go and now guess who gets to review the plans on anything they might want to do to that property. CM&E *Cash Means Everything* at your service of course. Kauff and Coren would not make any money on it if the town bought the property, so it had to stay recreation only with a private developer, which would mean CM&E gets their share. Then Kauff and the rest would get their share. CM&E will have to now be involved to study the new use of the property with unchecked fees and fraudulent bills for mysterious inspections and more. I understand no approvals have been given as of yet. They are probably waiting on the next expensive report from CM&E. Then when Kauff puts in for his share and the check clears they can start to build with of course more inspections by CM&E all the way through construction and beyond.
Wake up Aberdeen that is how things work in Kauffville.
The final proof of the swim club being improperly run was the selling of the property and the different and probably illegal ways it was decided who got what share and for how much. The people who ran it took care of themselves and that goes without saying. If I had money in that thing I would have brought in an accountant and ripped your supposed hard working volunteers a new one. My family was an original family bond in 1963 or 1964. We still had a bond that was not paid off when they closed the gate. The closing of that club was secretive and an insider deal from day one. People should have gone to jail for that mess. I say good riddance to the Starthmore Bath and Tennis Club and its idiotic leadership.
Pool Club: Why did you say you were an original bond holder and then say you would have hired an accountant if you had money in the club. You said you had an original bond, so which one was it. The newspapers played the whole thing up and the older couple in the n section complained vigorously. Once again it seems the greedy and incompetent leadership of the pool club profited at the expense of the many. I had friends who moved away and the husband said it would have cost too much money to investigate. That it is exactly what corrupt leadership counts on. Isn't that right Mr. Kauff. How can anyone even vote in elections when you know they are liars, thieves and far worse. What do you see when you close your eyes Mr. Kauff in that dream state just before you fall asleep. I see a pair of handcuffs being closed tightly around your wrists. Sleep well Mr. Kauff for the few nights of freedom you have left.
My family had an original bond and when my parents moved away in 1998 they did write to the pool club people requesting a refund. No response was givena and over time and with more pressing health concerns and the passing of our parents, it was forgotten. I am sure many people had similar situations. That is another thing such faulty leadership counts on. It is called complacency that allows such people to stay in power. Politicians and people in leadership figure it is cheaper to ignore people that complain. They figure people will go away or die off. It happens far too often it is sad to say.
Coren also used Mcaleer to close the club. Don't forget that so Mcaleer is not so innocent in the pool club being shuttered. Many people miss that club for all of its faults.
Once again someone anonymously criticizes Joe. I can only imagine what it takes to do the job in a municipality that probably gets little support and even less respect. Probably like the police officer that no one wants until they need them. Ask an employee of any town if they would want to do that type of job. Let us know what they tell you. My wife works with a lady whose husband used to do that job in Michigan. I will have my wife ask her when she can and I will post her response.
Now aberdeenr officals and Kauff and Joe are responsible for the closing of the pool club? The people who write this stuff are pathetic! Move out of town cry babies, I hear the Stop & Shop ran out of milk because Kauff bought all the cows in world. He is going to open a hamburger stand. I can only imagine how you cry babies are at work, you must be some productive people.
Can you people get over the pool club. My wife and i understand there are plans for the facility and it is going to be much better when complete. Yes it is now and has been an eyesore for a very long time. Improvement and change takes time. Let us all give the new owner some time as well. I will agree that the new owners will have to pay the town engineers whose bills are quite often outrageous and shall i say all too politically beneficial. Welcome to New Jersey the home of politics unusual and money that is spread around amongst those who are supposed to serve us and not just themselves and their bosses.
We all have a chance to make some changes in November. I will be making sure my republican candidates get a fair chance to represent the large number of us who live in this town and that are in fact under represented good taxpaying republicans.
One thing I should add on this topic regarding the former manager. I was very upset with the Mark Corin committing such a disgusting and vile act upon a child. The 2.5 years he will be serving was not enough. The rate of such people who commit such acts again is greater than 85% shows that they should be locked away, treated, analyzed and monitored much more closely. Those in the area who may have been shocked by that percentage along with such actions perpetrated by a man who lived among all of us for many years does deserves to be looked into. If it is not investigated as to any local victims then something is very wrong with our representatives and that does not bode well for us taxpayers, residents and its communities children.
You can be damn sure the sitting council members do not want any questions put to them at the council meeting tonight concerning the pervert. Tonight the town mouthpiece will tryu and deflect any question about the now convicted sexual predator and former Township Manager Mark Coren. Ask the questions you want and do not take no for an answer. The fact that it happened after his leaving here does not negate the opportunity to ensure no child was injured in town. I hope his picture printed last week in the newspaper might help someone out. I knew him a little socially and am shocked by his perverted actions. I am also glad he has been put away. At least we know that he will be safely monitored for some time to come.

If he was using township owned computers to stalk victims it should be investigated.
If any township official became aware of a crime committed by Coren and chose to remain silent or cover it up, for whatever reason, that should be investigated.
Not door to door, but if there are any unsolved sexual crimes in the area, it behooves the Aberdeen Township Police and/or the Monmouth County Prosecutor's office to take a new look, even if it eliminates Coren as a suspect.
And this is not "every story you see on the evening news", this is a heinous crime committed by a man who lived and worked in our community for many years, who was extolled by our governing body, who held a substantial amount of statutory power and who still owns property in Aberdeen.
This is not a matter of a thirst for information that tittilates, it is a matter of determining whether a man, brought to justice for a felony committed in another state, committed acts for which he should be brought to justice here.

Many of us in a civil society care little for the likes of him. Rehabilitation does not work the great majority of the time with such sexual predators. They are most often released after years of psychological analysis, to only hurt children again. Not my kid I can tell you that. I wish no harm on most people in society but if you hurt a child God help you. If you hurt my child there is not a cockroach you could hide under.

If you are still considering running for elected office on the Kauff controlled ticket you really need to reconsider. There is no harm in saving your family from such pain, embarrassment and ridicule that deep down inside you know is coming if you attach yourself to Kauff and his corrupt practices and pay to play. Mark also says everything is just so expensive and even toilet paper costs a lot. Mark did say something about bending over to get some and that he said would be helpful for some of his new friends who do not bend over at all. He calls them pitchers. Isn't that nice Mark and his new friends must play baseball.
That is all I could get out of Mark this time as he said something about having to go play house with Big Ho Mo. Must be one of Marks new asian friends? Mark said he does not mind wearing a dress so much now. It says it keeps him alive. That Mark isn't he just so funny. Should I send him a wig?

Based on the info on the FDOC website, it would seem that Florida has some of the same warnings and who knows; maybe the cyber police will come knocking. Free speech is one thing but these blogs are akin to someone “yelling fire in a crowded movie theater.” Who really cares that this guy got in trouble in Florida; it has nothing to do with the problems in Aberdeen and only helps to polarize people for the wrong reasons.

The lengths some people take to malign those critical of Mark Coren and/or the current town council only serves to convince me all the more of the need for an investigation. I have attempted to post in a calm, measured way on both the Coren scandal and Norman Kauff. I believe it to be perfectly reasonable to investigate whether a crime took place while Mr. Coren was in the employment of our township. If no crime took place, all the better, but let's ascertain that. As for Kauff, isn't it more realistic to simply vote his people out of office than to think, wish, hope and pray that someday there may be a federal bust in Aberdeen? I mean, we already know there will be an election this year, and when. Looks like I'm hitting too close to the mark (no pun intended) for some people's comfort.
To slander an innocent private citizen, who has nothing to do with politics or this blog, in a libelous manner as was done by "Anonymous August 7, 2009 8:02 AM" only convinces me that my previous comments were spot-on. Oh, and your comments as to how Mr. Warren chooses to educate his kids sounds like a touch of anti-Semitism. If you feel that way, I suggest you leave Aberdeen.

If millions of dollars in tax money had not been improperly, illegally or politically funneled to CME and others under Kauff control I would say that Kauff and others are not worthy of scorn and rebuke. Think of just say $2M that could have been available if CME did not overcharge taxpayers for their NO BID monopoly of work and the unchecked payments for numerous mistakes over that same work. Remember the parking lot by the parkway that CME got paid to screw up and then got paid to fix their own screw up. Your town council leadership said nothing. The $2M in monies could have been used for other important and necessary projects all around Aberdeen rather than Normans campaign coffers. It never ends yet some say Kauff is innocent. Sure and Idi Amin did not eat people either. Kauff is just a different kind of cannibal.
Here is just a small list of what could have been done rather than to line the pockets of Kauff, CME's Samuels and others in the politically cannibalistic food chain of Norman Kauff.
Aberdeen could have:
Purchased and renovated the swim club property and made it available for the taxpayers not some private investors.
Built the promised skateboard park.
Better maintenance of roads.
Improved playground equipment.
Improved rec facilities and programs.
Senior center in a building not falling apart like now.
More commuter parking at the train station to get me off of the list i have been on for nine years.
Improved emergency services and police protection.
Put sewers off 516.
The list goes on and on. Just remember it is not the substance for Kauff and his controlled leadership it is how things look.
If you look under the bed the dirt is there. just waiting to be found. Much like Kauff and the others who fear the knock on the door they know is coming.
Think about it before you protect him. Do you really think he is innocent. The latest poll shows 70% of New Jerseyans do not trust politicians. Are they wrong to?

Aberdeen awards development rights for the train station and Freneau to an ex-felon.
Kauff strong-arms developers into using the same law firm if they want a smooth process in Aberdeen.
Kauff guarantees approvals through the Planning Board that he controls, even getting the town's professional engineer and planner to change their published opinions on projects (County Road and Rt. 34 Cifelli developments).
Sobel and Tagliarini care more about fattening the coffers of the town engineer than about getting the right thing done for Aberdeen.
Why did the township manager and Kauff allow rotten watermelon to be stored at the old glass factory in Cliffwood and risk a health hazard which attracted vermin, other than Kauff?

Don't think the projects have been forgotten. I would suggest getting the old professionals reports on the former proposals for that area and see how they changed when Kauff and envelopes started changing hands. Don't count on Ms. Gumbs either. Realtors are a special breed and she is damn good at doing what Kauff wants over and over again.
Checking the paperwork on what professionals under Kauff means nothing. He did the same thing for the building I live in by the parkway. Many problems and more since I moved in and it means nothings since this place has been sold more times then the Kauff controlled votes of the town council in Aberdeen. There was no return phone calls to even discuss the township buying the 45 year old club. The deal was simple it was recreation only designated and Kauff and crew could not make money on that one. A very respectful letter arrived in my mail yesterday from the republican candidate Mr. Aljian. I read the letter and saw the card seeking donations, campaign sign placement and an absentee ballot request on a smaller card. I found this to be very thoughtful and I will send money, get a sign placed upon my lawn and I will vote by absentee ballot. I found this letter and its contents insightful and respectful. Well done I say.
The information and examples of and hopes for Aberdeen and the much needed change in leadership was subtle to say the least. I suggest Mr. Aljian that you go for the throat next time.
The key things that will get you elected in your grass roots efforts will be
1. Monies in the exact amounts paid to the Kauff faithful in just the past five years.
2. The developments being negotiated by Kauff a man unelected by the people and who *steals* from every side on every issue he is a part of.
3. The backroom dealing with Kauff at the helm with his almost Svengali like mind control that he holds all of these years over the council, zoning board, planning board and their every action and approval.
4. Councilwoman Gallo and former manager Brown being ousted by Kauff for their inquiries or ethical refusal to not allow Kauff and CM&E control of the purse strings of Aberdeen. This must be more widely known by the voters and taxpayers as it shows the costs paid by those who say NO to Kauff.
5. The very negative developmental impact and backroom deals very soon to be put forth *just after this election* that will fill our schools with more ($13,000.00) children, our community with *project* type housing with all of its possible problems, traffic congestion and more that will pay Kauff and many others handsomely for their unethical behavior and approvals.
If you do not highlight the above and more then you should just put the campaign away. Put it in a file marked *what should I do next time to get elected*. Voters and taxpayers alike care and they want to see the numbers. If you show them the millions of their tax millions of dollars wasted and improperly funneled to Kauffs friends they will notice. Show the voters the Kauff connections and absolute control he causes with all of its negative effects. Show them the approvals and opinions on numerous developmental projects that all of a sudden changed *somehow magically* after Kauff changed the number of units. That of course means much more money for the developers and Kauff.
These are the things people want to see. Facts not fiction will get you elected. Show the voters and taxpayers where their money has gone and to whom.

How will the candidates and their MASTER get past the Coren SEXUAL PREDATOR thing? That incident and many other Kauffisms will be hard to get past as the Republicans go door to door. If any of you Democrats do not think that the Coren thing will not be on peoples minds, you have another thing coming.
Rumors of Coren getting in trouble out of state and getting HELP have circulated for years. Other incidents locally have also been heard about and are just as disappointing. Yet the controlled Aberdeen council leadership has said nothing and taken no action under any morals clause while Coren was leading them around by the nose all of those years.

The funny thing is that Coren was the Manager when Council passed the sexual predator residency law that was later overturned by the state. It would have hilarious if he had to move because of an ordinance that he helped prepare for the council.
