Republican mayoral candidate, Tom Aljian, has been seeking a debate with his democratic opponent, Fred Tagliarini. In all likelihood, Tagliarini will decline for the same reasons Aljian wants to debate. Tagliarini has far greater name recognition and deeper ties to the community than Aljian and a debate would raise Aljian’s profile. Tagliarini is also viewed as more qualified, given his long years of community service, his years on the planning board, and his present role as interim councilman; a debate would give Aljian the opportunity to demonstrate that he, too, is qualified.
However, the refusal to debate also betrays weakness. Unlike Aljian, Tagliarini has a record. As councilman, he supported the tax increase, supported the pension deferral, and supported taking “surplus” library funds. While on the planning board, he supported controversial development that fueled spending rather than provide tax relief. Lastly, Tagliarini, a lifelong Republican, chose to become a Democrat this year and thereby attach himself to all the scandals and unsavory individuals connected to the local Democratic Party.
Still, his personal relationships in town and reputation for integrity should help him make the argument – Don’t judge me by my friends. But will it be enough?
In 2005, Mayor Sobel narrowly won with 80 votes. In 2007, the Democrats won with an average 250-vote margin, notwithstanding that the Green Party candidates captured over 300 votes each.
Let’s assume the Green Party votes will split evenly among the two parties. Let’s also assume that the scandals, tax increases, coah and section 8 housing, unwanted development, and patronage games have disenfranchised a number of democratic supporters. In order to win, Tagliarini has only three options – 1) Increase democratic turnout 2) Attract republican voters 3) Discourage republican support. All three will be tough challenges.
I don’t believe Tagliarini will be able to outdo Councilman Vinci’s get-out-the-vote efforts. Especially not this year with Corzine trailing badly in the polls, Obama’s poll numbers dropping, and the simple fact that Tagliarini isn’t the political animal that Vinci is.
Regarding republican votes, the overwhelming majority of people who personally know Tagliarini will vote for him, including republicans. As for all the other republicans, not a chance. Tagliarini voted to raise taxes during a recession. There’s just no way to spin that.
Discouraging republican support may have been a possibility if there wasn’t a gubernatorial election. Republicans will turn out in the same numbers they did the last time, if not more.
There is one other possibility. Tagliarini could showcase his opponent’s shortcomings and characterize Aljian as unqualified for the mayoralty. But that would require a debate. Otherwise, Tagliarini’s only strategy is to hope the Republicans fail more than he does. >>> Read more!

Why is it that the children in Cliffwood school can't talk during lunch? If they do they get put on the wall for a time-out? What is the policy the principal is being ridiculous. Shouldn't children get a chance to interact with other's and socialize, these are important skills too.

It was brought to the principal's attention today at his "coffee session". I think his concern seems to be that the children don't have time to talk and eat, because lunch is not that long. I agree and think it needs to be brought to O'Malley's attention, social interaction is important for students. If talking is keep "low" in the cafeteria it should be okay. Let's be fair they are K-3, school need's to be fun as well, it should not seem like jail.
Everyone is so offended yet the $20,000,000.00 that Kauff has stolen from the taxpayers is overlooked.

I think the problem with talking & time with lunch needs to be discussed with the principal and the aides. Have you seen some of these aides???? They are old and have zero patience for these kids. According to you, the FBI has been coming for Norm and the other members of Aberdeen's government for well over two years now. I can not even begin to count how many times you have indicated you just got off the phone with a "certain FBI agent" and announced to this blogspace that knocking on doors should be happening any day now.
Well? Where is the FBI? Where are the arrests? We are getting so bored by your neverending IN CAPS postings which have been proven untrue time and time again.
Let's see, according to you who has supposedly investigated Norm and the other Aberdeeners over the years:
1) The FBI - (There have been no arrests in Aberdeen and no Prosecutions)
2) Christopher Christie - (Again, there have been no arrests in Aberdeen, nor any prosecutions despite a well publicized state wide criminal probe into local corruption on which Christie is now running for Governor)
3) The Asbury Park Press - (Not even a single story ever published in the Press alleging corruption in Aberdeen. This despite endless stories appearing in the Press about corruption in Monmouth County.)
Either Norman Kauff is the smartest man on this planet or you are just a complete idiot who has no life and instead sits home all day making up corruption stories which have absolutely no factual basis whatsoever.
If corruption was as rampant and obvious in Aberdeen as you consistantly allege, the FBI would have investigated, Christie would have prosecuted, and the Asbury Park Press would have had endless front page stories on our dear Township.
Since none of that has happened, and I'm sure Norman Kauff isn't the smartest man alive, I would have to say my only choice is to assume you are a complete idiot.

The fact that the Kauff crew hasn't been picked up by the FBI yet does not mean that it won't happen.
The folks in Jersey City, Hoboken, and the others had no idea until they were rounded up that one fateful morning a couple of months ago.
Kauff is a small fry, a tiny impudent fish in the world of NJ corruption. The FBI just hasn't worked their way down to him yet.
In the meantime, Aberdeen will spend millions on engineering and legal fees for development on contaminated sites that will never happen and those that pay, like on Cambridge Road, Route 34, and County Road will build whatever they want.
This may just be a place that concerned citizens can vent out of frustration and yes, there are a bunch of warped people on the Aberdeener, and maybe this group of Republicans will lose, but in the end Kauff and Tagliarini and the rest will know that they have cost this town dearly even if they do not have to pay the piper, so to speak.
Or maybe the knock will come on Justice Lane and at Airport Plaza early one morning. That is when we'll see this story in the paper.

Regarding Cliffwood Lunch,
Let's have some common sense. Kids are kids, of course they need to have some time to talk to their friends and build social relationships in school during their lunchtime, as long as it is not over done. And if a child is to talk sooo much that they don't have time to eat thier lunch, after they do it once or twice and are hungry for the rest of the afternoon, I'm sure they will learn they need to take some time to eat. Stop underestimating children, they can figure these simple things out on their own. They are not going to starve themselves.
If a lunch aide notices a child is continually not eating, then something could be said to that child. But should all children have to sit in silence every day? I'm sure the majority of kids could figure out how to eat and socialize with their peers.
One more thing, How does giving a child a time-out on the wall for talking, help the child get proper nutrition?

Mr. Lauro stated this is the Road Improvement Program that we do every year.
Mayor Sobel stated you made a comment about why is this not the same as the four previous bids.
Councilwoman Gallo stated because it wasn't bidded, this is a professional service.
Councilman Drapkin stated the road program does go out to bid, the actual work.
Mr. Lauro stated this is to go out and design the road and do out to bid and get us to the part where contractors bid on the road. CME Associates only does the engineering part of it.
Councilwoman Gallo stated she would like to hold it and discuss it.
Mayor Sobel stated each year we send out RFQ's for professional services, that is planning, legal, engineering, etc. CME was appointed as our engineer for 2008. I am not a bid proponent of putting professional services out to bid. I don't think all engineering firms are created equal, not all legal firms are created equal and not all planning firms are created equal. These are critical activities that place municipalities at a great risk if not done by a good firm.
Councilwoman Gallo stated there are issues within the contract. I am uncomfortable voting on something that I need answers for.

Not a word in this dialogue has been changed from what is published on the Township's website. It would be interesting to hear the tape of what transpired in Executive Session on this topic. One thing is known: Mrs. Gallo was history after this meeting.

"Fake Republican Leaders Endorse" also mentions Route 34 and Lloyd Road being improved in 2008. It also mentions the beach, imagine that! Look at the people who signed that piece - Dennis Devino - didn't live in town in 2007 and doesn’t live in town today, yet somehow he signed as a Republican leader. Fred Tagliarini – hasn’t been involved with the Republican party in over 10 years, yet he was listed as a Republican leader. Linda Rossi – incorrectly listed as past chair of the party which is wrong, and the story goes that she didn’t sign this letter anyway.
That brings me to my favorite, the “Senior Center”, the awesome new Senior Center the Democrats brought to us here in town – see the nice photos?! In fact, you can go back as far as 2005 to see the Democrats touting out the new Senior Center they are bringing us.

I understand why my previous post was taken down, as it contained vulgar language.
But why is it okay to leave up a post calling other people's children "a weenie"? after someone asks a perfectly polite question about bully prevention - especially in a thread that has so much to do with a coach that is being talked about for allegedly BEING a bully?

I didn't know where to post this...but this will give you a feel for the level of conduct that the present party and it appointees have presented to the civilians of this town as far back as 10 years ago. I had just moved into Aberdeen and went though the normal steps with the Seller obtained the necessary C.O.....about one month after i had moved in...i noticed on the far side of my home...several of the sidewalk blocks were torn up...and would have to be replaced at a expense to me. I called the building dept...and spoke to a man...i think his first name was "Ed" but i am not sure. I asked if part of the C.O. is to reveiw the condition of the sidewalks. I was told yes. And that they must have missed it...but since i was kind enough to mention it..he would especially look for it when i sold my house....I could not believe those words...how low can one human be.....i am now mad at myself..for not traveling to the Building Dept and face that thing face to face.....god help him if he is the one who does my C.O. when i sell!

I mean, you toured the house before your bought it. If you had been thorough, then you could have negotiated the cost of the sidewalk in connection with the sale. Or, you could have called the building department BEFORE you bought the house.
